    Bit to Do

The 9th Annual Bardstown-Bound BooFest haunts the streets of the Highlands

The Highlands neighborhood has never had a problem observing holidays in its own "weird" way, so it's no surprise that the weirdest holiday of all -- Halloween -- is being celebrated in style once again this year during another Bardstown-Bound BooFest!

Businesses along Douglas Loop, Bardstown Road, and Baxter Avenue will all be swinging their doors wide open for this ninth annual day of tricking and treating on Saturday, October 27, starting at noon. Ghosts and goblins of all ages are encouraged to come attired in their best costumes, as boutiques, bars, and even the trolleys running from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be decked out in ghoulish decor. Candy provided by local favorite business Valu Market will be passed out by the festive cast of BooFest all day for you to savor while you browse the great deals being offered by the shops and stores of the Bardstown-Baxter corridor. Sales and specials will be applied to everything from clothing to home furnishings to the finest Louisville dining, so keep your eyes open for frightfully low discounts.

After the sun goes down, many of the Highlands watering holes will be putting their own spooky stamp on BooFest. BBC specials will go into effect at multiple restaurants and bars, and local entertainment will jam on into the witching hour. Beloved businesses like North End Cafe, Mark's Feed Store, the Bristol Bar and Grille, the Bard's Town, O'Shea's, and BoomBozz Taphouse (which will feature a local beer tent and live band) will all be offering their own special rates on products for one spine-chilling night only.

Bardstown-Bound BooFest is sponsored by the Highland Commerce Guild and will run from noon until individual businesses close for the evening on Saturday, October 27. Visit www.thehighlandsoflouisville.com to check out which Bardstown Road locations will be participating, or call (502) 721-8636 for more information. All proceeds from this event will benefit Gilda's Club of Louisville, located in the Highlands.

    About Karen Ellestad

When I was seven and my brother was eight, we both wrote to 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' for a free t-shirt. Two weeks later his arrived in the mail, signed by Carmen Sandiego herself, accompanied by an autographed picture of the cast, an official membership to the 'Gumshoe Club,' and a Rockapella casette tape. I got a postcard.
