Tips for what the libraries are up to this weekend, from an LFPL insider. Have fun learning.

    Friday, July 25

The World of Minecraft. There is an actual world. Lots of kids understand it. I do not. But go for it! The Main Library is hosting three hours of programming from 1:30-4:30pm. From the LFPL website: “Minecraft is a video game that offers participants access to a virtual world where they can explore, create, interact, and learn. The Library’s World of Minecraft is filled with historical locations and educational games that help develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a safe, secure, and FUN online environment. Activities focus on specific Common Core standards in Reading, Math, and Social Studies. World of Minecraft at the Library is for youth, ages 10-16. The sessions are free and open to the public—no license or experience necessary. Participants can register for one of the sessions below. Registrations will be accepted any time during the 3 weeks, space permitting.” They also have slots available on Monday, July 28. Call 502-574-1644 to register. The library is located at 301 York Street.

    Saturday, July 26

What is biohacking? Go find out at the Fern Creek Library from 1-3pm! The description says you will learn to increase focus, energy, and health. Sounds good to me. Call 502-231-4605. The library is located at 6768 Bardstown Road.

Lego Party at the Southwest Regional Library! I now know more about the Lego craze as I just watched The Lego Movie last weekend and can’t get the “Everything is Awesome” tune out of my head. Great, it’s back again. Bring the kids to build and create with their imaginations starting at 2pm. Call 502-933-0029 for more information. The library is located at 10375 Dixie Highway.

Here is a preview of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s full schedule of August computer classes, great for learners of all ages. Pre-registration is requested and space is limited. Call 812-949-3523.

Literary Fare at the Spencer County Public Library – Join in for coffee or tea and discuss what you are currently reading with other book lovers. Pick up adult summer reading prizes as well. It’s from 10am-1pm. Call 502-477-8137 for more information. The library is located at 168 Taylorsville Road (40071).
