Our libraries around Louisville and Kentuckiana are outstanding. We’ve been doing a feature for a while now on Louisville.com called Louisville Library Life. It’s a weekly article which features great events and local happenings at area public libraries. There are so many opportunities awaiting you at all of the libraries, all of them FREE. #1 reason why bibliophiles love Louisville-we have fantastic public library programming that improves constantly and never ceases in engaging individuals and promoting lifelong learning at every stage. 2. Local and independent bookstores
In Louisville, we have two pretty prominent local and independent bookstores: Carmichael’s Bookstore and A Reader’s Corner Bookstore. Book Attic is located on Preston Highway. The Parent Teacher Store & Toys Too is a local store specializing in educational materials, and they carry mostly children’s books as well. The Great Escape is a comic book store located in the Highlands. McQuixote Books & Coffee is a new endeavor in the Portland area. There’s also a newly launched British bookshop called Paul Wheeldon Secondhand Books that I have to check out soon, just to see what it entails. Recently they described themselves as “relaunching” as a British bookshop-what exactly does that mean? Go find out and let me know!
3. Literary events
Literary events occur weekly all over the city. From author events with best-selling authors such as Carl Hiaasen (who just spoke last evening in Louisville), to authors who visit Barr Memorial Library in Fort Knox monthly and more. Author events are everywhere. You can meet local Kentucky authors such as Marie Bradby at local bookstores such as Carmichael’s Kids. There is a chance to be in contact with so many that you may not even realize it. Follow these Facebook accounts to stay up to speed on literary happenings around the city and surrounding areas.

4. Book clubs and meet-ups

5. Local coffee shops and dives where bibliophiles hang out
