Louisville Girls Leadership, from the website, is “a leadership development program designed for female students, ages 15 to 18, to have an opportunity to come together from all areas of Jefferson County to develop life skills and alliances that will enable them to become visionary community leaders. Led by a steering committee of diverse 11th and 12th grade girls, LGL gives young women the opportunity to grow as leaders and develop confidence by building key leadership skills through a yearlong curriculum lead by community leaders.”
The IdeaFestival is designed to be an engaging, though-provoking delve into conversations between high school female students and adults who can empower them to lead this next generation. During this weekend’s Girls IdeaFestival, students will focus on solutions to problems they face. It’s inspired by the popular Louisville-based IdeaFestival, where community members come together to foster creativity and innovation for the greater good of the city.
The Girls IdeaFestival will be relatable to high school girls, high school boys, and the adults in their lives. The speakers on tap for the festival include Barbara Sexton Smith of the Fund for the Arts, Kiley Lane Parker of Parker Lane, LLC and the director and writer of the documentary film Raising Ms. President, and Alli Truttman of Wicked Sheets. There will also be some panel discussions performed by the LGL Leadership team comprised of high school juniors and seniors. They will discuss such topics as “Everything You Wish You Knew About Girls, But Were Afraid to Ask.”
The entire day’s festivities should be highly informative, and will address topics pertaining to young girls in today’s world, hoping to inspire them to become more involved in discussions and expand their career goals. According to one high school senior at St. Francis, Olivia Beres, “The Louisville Girls IdeaFestival fosters conversations between knowledgeable speakers and innovative young minds to tackle problems facing women today. The energetic environment highlights our metro youth, cultivates connections, and produces attainable solutions.” The IF Girls event is on Saturday, April 26, at the JCTC Health Sciences Building located at 110 W. Chestnut Street.
A cocktail party/reception is scheduled to kick off the festival on Friday, April 25, 6:30-8:30pm at The Green Building, located at 732 East Market Street. This is a style show to kick off the LGL IF Festival and will showcase fashions from four unique local fashion gurus.
