    Bit to Do

    Print this page

It is the Dread Pirate Roberts of the wordsmith.  A dastardly disease that spreads through the brain and attacks that frothing well of creativity feeding the mind’s eye.  A parasitic wall; the great literary leech.  Mothers guard your children and cover their precious eyes: WRITER’S BLOCK!  But have no fear of this monster for the weekend; it has been tamed and caged – its powers to be used only for good.

Hosted by Louisville Literary Arts and generously sponsored by The Green Building, Creation Gardens, Zephyr Gallery, Flame Run Gallery and Hound Dog Press, the Writer’s Block Festival celebrates all things word, book, written and printed.  Presenting a plethora of panels, workshops and readings – many of which are free – this festival promises to satisfy your inner bookworm without breaking your piggy bank (so starving artists welcome).

The two day extravaganza kicks off tonight with authors Kevin Wilson and Catherine Bowman reading for the InKY Reading Series at The Bard’s Town.  Most of the festivities will take place tomorrow, Saturday, October, 15th; good times include panel conversations on topics such as screenwriting and the process of writing, readings by various authors, open mics and an all day print fair showcasing the talent and beauty of various regional presses.  Workshops include learning the design and art of letterpress, hosted by our own Hound Dog Press, as well as writing seminars to hone your skills in the genres of poetry, creative non-fiction and original word play.

The Writer’s Block Festival will also play host to a myriad of authors, writers and poets lending their flow and flair; talents include Philip Allen, Makalani Bandele, Gaylord Brewer, Lynnell Edwards, Kirby Gann, Sarah Gorham, Jeff Hipsher, Alyssa Knickerboker, Will Lavender and a multitude of others.  Visit East Market this weekend for a healthy dose of culture, art and erudite entertainment.  Look the Writer’s Block Beast square in the eye and strut your literary stuff!

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
