Despite today's gloomy primary election skies, summer will be here before you know it. And with the reappearance of the summer sun comes the triumphant return of the Louisville Free Public Library's Summer Reading Program!

This summer's program 'Think Globally, Read Locally," will encourage readers (both kids and teens) to read for fun while thinking about the planet. With the environmentally-minded theme, the Library will offer "green" programs, prizes and exhibits for kids to enjoy all summer long.

The Summer Reading Program runs from June 1st to August 7th at every library location. For more information call 574-1620 or visit Louisville Free Public Library's website.

Also, be sure not to miss the Library's Summer Reading Program kickoff event at the Main Library branch on June 5th. The party starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m.  Parents and kids can take part in many fun "hands-on" activities with the Speed Art Museum, Raptor Rehab, Just Creations, Junk Rehab, Jefferson Memorial Forest just to name a few. There will also be performances by Arcoiris Latino and the McClanahan School for Irish Dance. Get some gardening tips from the Germantown/Paristown Neighborhood Association Community Garden and marvel at some cool "green" cars. This event is completely free.
