Braving the snow, rain, ice, and the combo of all the above I braved the streets of our fair city to attend Louisville Film Society's inaugural Oscar Party dressed head to toe in my best 70's attire thanks to the lovely ladies at The Nitty Gritty on Barrett Avenue. My date for the evening was graciously clothed by the team at Pink Door Boutique on Bardstown Road. Themed parties are always SO much better whenever you've got true vintage fanatics behind you.
Now that I've set the scene for the party, let's talk about how hard the team at Louisville Film Society worked to put together this incredible event. Held at their new location off Lytle Street in Portland the venue was brightly lit and equipped with a red carpet, where Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar for Silver Lining's Playbook made a guest appearance. Between the incredible food from Farm to Fork Catering, craft cocktails like the "comb over", and beer from West Sixth Brewing Company in Lexington the event was fit for the stars.
When I wasn't watching the awards show and live tweeting my votes for best dressed or best acceptance speech I took a few minutes to learn more about the Film Society and their new location from executive director George Parker Jr. The former warehouse is slated to be transformed into multi-screen movie theater, with a café, office space and outdoor events space and the best beer garden the city has ever seen. The society hopes to have all construction completed by September in time for the merge of the 5-year-old Flyover Film Festival with the Idea Festival. For the movie junkies out there the theater will house four new screens dedicated to showing independent and foreign movies, documentaries, retrospectives and films ties back to the local community. The space will also offer office space as well as production company that out of town teams can hire. The society is poised to help the film community in Louisville grow leaps and bounds in the coming year, and their Oscar Party was a great start.
