When I was a child, my mother gave me a book filled with classic ballet stories. Giselle was included in this book, and was always one of my favorites. This dark and beautiful tale engrossed my thoughts with each colorful illustration. To see it years later performed right before my eyes is a dream come true.
The Louisville Ballet 2014-2015 season begins tonight at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. The season starts with a classic performance of
Giselle
at 8 p.m. Friday Sept. 12; 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 13; and 8 p.m. Saturday Sept. 13. If you are unfamiliar with this story, Louisville Ballet’s website has a description:
“
Steeped in the romantic-era traditions, Giselle tells the tale of a young peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. When a group of supernatural women summon Giselle from her grave and target her lover for death, it is Giselle’s love that frees him from their grasp.”
If you are looking for a new way to spend a Friday or Saturday I highly recommend you join me for this limited 2-day production.
