February marks the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America, and the folks who produce the Abbey Road on the River Festival plan to celebrate in style. A mini-festival titled "February '64" will be happening Friday, February 7 through Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Muhammad Ali Center and at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
A full line up of bands will be playing tribute to the British pop band and the entire festival will wrap up with a special 50th Anniversary production: a recreation of the Ed Sullivan episode that the Beatles first appeared on featuring a performance by tribute band Britbeat.
The Ed Sullivan show recreation will include live performances by locals such as myself (as Tess O'Shea), Darshwood (Magician), Laurel Fleury (Circus Act), and Sean Keller (Impressionist) alongside others.
You can buy tickets to the entire festival or single day passes on the Abbey Road web site. You can also purchase tickets to the Anniversary Ed Sullivan Show Sunday night only at the Ky Center web site. Reserve rooms at the Galt House for a special rate: $119 for a deluxe and $139 for a suite. If you really want to geek out and stay up to date with this event, you can join the Facebook group.
