Shively Library, a branch of the Louisville Free Public Library in southwestern Louisville, just reopened this past week after having been closed for three months for major renovations. The grand reopening ceremony was attended by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, Shively Mayor Sherry Conner, Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge, Library Director Craig Buthod, many members of the Shively community, and students from nearby Mill Creek Elementary School.

The newly updated additions to the existing library building included a brand new separate library entrance, numerous additional public Internet computers, and improvements to its accessibility. Other improvements made were a new family restroom, better heating and air conditioning systems, new carpet, ceilings, and wall finishes as well as new landscaping and designing better curb appeal for the library.

Councilwoman Woolridge said this of the improvements, “This is a special day for everyone who knows the importance of the Shively Branch to this community,” said District 3 Councilwoman Woolridge.  “In three short months, we have been able to transform this branch into a state-of-the-art facility. There are more computers and resources along with better accessibility for those who use this branch and future generations who will come for education and enjoyment.” Library Director Craig Buthod summed the project and the day’s opening up nicely, by saying, “This is the new Shively Library, we are all so proud.”

The Shively Library is located at 3920 Dixie Highway. Their hours are Monday-Thursday  10am-9pm , Friday and Saturday 10am-5pm, closed on Sundays. Call 502-574-1730 for more information.

In other library news, the new Southwest Regional Library construction project is progressing along very nicely. The new library space in southwest Louisville, which will boast 40,000 square feet, is set to be completed and open in the summer of 2014. It will be located at 9725 Dixie Highway near Valley High School. Click here to see the Mayor’s construction tour online.
