Your show of shows will reach the Kentucky Center for the Arts on Friday when the What If? Theatre Company puts on Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor.
Performances of Laughter on the 23rd Floor will take place in the MeX at Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 West Main Street in downtown Louisville. Performances will take place on September 17, 18, 21, 24, and 25 at 8 p.m. each night. A matinee will occur on September 26 at 2 p.m.
Tickets for the performances are $15 per person and are general admission. The exception is the Sept. 21 show for which tickets will only be $10. All tickets can be purchased by going to the Kentucky Center for the Arts box office, Kentucky Center website, or calling 502-584-7777. Keep in mind the two hour show does contain adult language and situations. Audience discretion is advised.
Laughter on the 23rd Floor is based on writer Neil Simon's work and experiences on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows, a comedy-variety show, in the 1950s. The show features Max Prince, an alter-ego based on Caesar, attempting to put together a humorous show while also dealing with the network. The writers room is center stage for the wackiness, writing, and creation of the productions.
Characters in the writers room are based on actual writers from the era, including Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Carl Reiner, and Larry Gelbart.
Tom Schulz directed Laughter on the 23rd Floor, which contains cast members Chet Gray, Craig Nolan Highley, Frank Whitaker, John Hess, Julie Hanna, Katie Graviss, Neil Brewer, Rich Galey, and Rich Williams.
The production landed on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and ran for 320 total performances. Your Show of Shows, meanwhile, ran weekly from 1950-1954 on the NBC network.
