African American women struggles form the basis of For Colored Girls, which opens at Kentucky Center for the Arts on Thursday.
For Colored Girls performances will go on Oct. 6, 7, and 8 at 8 p.m. each night. Shows on Oct. 9 will occur at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. All performances will occur in the Mex Theater at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, located in downtown Louisville at 501 West Main Street.
Tickets are $16 per person and are not currently available online. However, ticket information can be found at either the Kentucky Center website or by calling the box office at 1-800-775-7777. Keep in mind the 90-minute show contains strong language and content.
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enough is not a feel good story. It features a group of African American women sharing their stories of survival and struggle as they deal with love, abandonment, rape, and abortion, among other issues.
The story is told in free verse and prose, giving the story something of a poetic, dramatic feel. The show is presented by Rush Trowel Entertainment. Ntozake Shange created the production.
