This Friday, May 11th at Zazoo's The Ladybirds will be playing. I recently had a chance to speak with Sarah Teeple, lead singer of the band to ask her some questions especially the band's name; "contrary to what most Louisvillians at first think we're not the University of Louisville's dance team, often times dirty old men are disappointed we are not cheerleaders." She said, humorously. The Ladybirds musical influences come mostly from the '50s through the '70s, they are particularly fans of Nancy Sinatra daughter of the famous American singer Frank Sinatra; Nancy teamed up with singer/songwriter and producer Lee Hazlewood for a duet called Ladybird and the band took the name from that song.

The band was based and initially started in Bloomington, Indiana in late 2005 where Sarah and Jaxon the bass player "the one who seeds an idea" confirmed Sarah, met their guitarist Max. The band then moved to Louisville and a couple of additions were made a few years later, Anthony "a master mind behind the organ," admitted Sarah and then later Brett, the drummer "who has been a great fit" including that "he is an awesome Rock 'n' Roller." Sarah also said they love playing in Louisville for their fans who are not afraid to have a good beer and dance around.

For their latest album the band is focusing on branching out to close cities and have now booked shows outside of Louisville to tour and promote "Shimmy Shimmy Dang" so this is a show to watch, because they won't be back for a while. Special guests for this Friday night's show include; Vanna Inget, Swedish punk band; She Might Bite and Rambos from Chicago.

    About Karla Castorena

I love social networking, writing and being in-the-know with news around Louisville. My definition of a fun Friday or Saturday night is having a good beer with friends at my favorite bar, O'Shea's with a live band playing in the background.
