Fresh on the heels of their recently released full studio album, "Beat the Champ," The Mountain Goats will make Louisville’s Headliners Music Hall their next stop on their current international tour in support of the new album. Lead by singer-songwriter John Darnielle, the Goats' latest album is an explorative narration of the world of professional wrestling.
Darnielle is no stranger to crafting beautiful vocal imagery surrounding the triumphs and downfalls of athletes. Mountain Goat songs like "Pinklon” paint a storyline of a troubled former heavyweight champion boxer being released from prison only to be welcomed by celebration in the streets upon his release. "Beat the Champ" often takes the same tune, romantically diving through the experience of what feels like a childhood obsession with professional wresting being reexamined through melodic songwriting. This is where Darnielle excels. He has a incredible ability to craft vivid storylines with his lyrics. Recently Darnielle used those exact talents to crossover to the literary world with the release of his first novel "Wolf in White Van," released on September 16, 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
You can catch The Mountain Goats live at Headliner’s Music Hall on April 21, 2015. The show starts at 9 p.m.
