Start your week off right. Hop into Bearno’s (Highlands) on Monday nights, starting at 7:30 pm for Alanna Fugate’s open mic. Whether you want to wash down a greasy slice of pizza with a cold mug of Sam Adams, get down with some groovin' Louisville-grown jams, or share a few of your own songs, everyone can find a seat at this weekly, all-ages event. With a warm cheesy plate of bread sticks you may also find a side of blues, folk, classic rock, poetry, Americana. It’s a free sample of what’s going on in the local music scene. This long-standing open mic has been attracting local talent since 2009 and has seen a few different venues since then. Bearno’s has hosted since January of 2013.
For over 16 years, Alanna Fugate has been writing and performing her songs, which new fans can check out at alannafugate.bandcamp.com. She performs at local venues including the Rudyard Kippling, the Hideaway Saloon, The Bards Town, and on Crescent Hill Radio. Alanna exudes pride and sentiment about her open mic; “I get to see the creative evolution of some extremely talented people. Collaborations, the making of relationships, the sharing of life changing events, and every Monday night we come together to check in with each other, share what's new, just say hi, or play something a lil' dusty. We make each other laugh and cry. It is a family and a community. A place to feel welcomed and inspired.”
The weekly gathering includes regulars, newcomers, out-of-towners… folks of all ages, and musicians of all backgrounds. Some folks come weekly just to hang out, talk, and listen. Everyone’s a character with a unique musical story to tell. What’s yours?
