This Saturday Katie Hertzig returns to Louisville to celebrate the new release of her 5th studio-recorded album, Walking Through Walls at Headliners Music Hall (9 PM, $15). Her recent US tour started mid-March: “It feels nice to be playing new music,” Katie shares with Louisville.com, “but of course I still enjoy sharing the old tunes too.” Her new album continues to capture the hearts of fans in search of those iconic, indie-pop songs. Songs that are so quick to leave a lasting impression and picturesque image in the minds of listeners, that it’s no wonder how many of them have been featured in commercials, movies, and TV shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy.”

This Nashville-based progressive folk-rock singer-songwriter began touring in 2011, after the successful release of her album Waking Sleep. Since then she has performed in major music festivals including Bonaroo and Summerfest; and has shared the stage with a variety of loved artists such as Brandi Carlile, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, and The Fray.

For this tour, she performs with a full band of bass, drums, keys, cello, and guitar. “In our shows, we want to capture a balance of the intimacy and epic sound that is present in the album recording,” says Katie. Fans can expect this show to be an “energetic experience.” The album itself was partly inspired from personal events happening in Katie’s life at the time – “My mom passing away came out in the music, but so did being in the middle of a new relationship.”

The album continues to feature her personable, expressive vocals that have been compared to the female vocal icons Devon Sproule and Neko Case. In the studio, Katie explains that she is simply “following her inspiration. I never go to the studio with a finite vision of what is to come. It’s hard to control music in that way.” She revealed that her favorite song to perform from the album has been “Frequencies,” which appears to explore the courage behind falling in love.

Louisville fans, new and old, have a lot to look forward to this Saturday, including an opening set by Noah Gunderson. Katie’s Walking Through Walls is available on iTunes. Please visit http://katieherzig.com and http://noahgundersenmusic.com for more information about their music.
