Louisville's Va Va Vixens return for opening night of their sixth annual "Va Va Valentine's Show: A Faerie's Tail" on Friday February 6, 2015 at Headliner's Music Hall. The troupe promises that it will be their biggest production to date, and they have gone all out.
"This show is unlike any of our others!" says producer Lisa Frye. "It has more performers, more incredible costumes and just more of everything! There are more group numbers, and we have added some new aerial apparatuses. It's a huge spectacle."
Those who have never been to a Vixen's show might be surprised that there is more to their shows than "burlesque." The highly theatrical performances include aerial arts, contortion, acro-yoga, group dance numbers, powerful vocals, and other amazing feats. The Vixens are also known for their wild and impressive costumes. The audience will be visited by Goldilocks and the "three sassiest bears you've ever seen"; Beauty and the Beast; a multitude of faeries, centaurs, Little Red Riding Hood, an ugly duckling, Pinocchio and Gepetto; a huge spider to frighten Miss Muffet; Aladdin and others including the famous Faerie Godmother whose entire costume (and hair!) lights up.
Frye says it is an honor to work with the talented cast, which has had some new additions since their last Valentine's show. There is an entire list of performers and their specialties on the Vixens' website. She said the performers are all so creative, imaginative and hilarious. "There is never a dull moment!" Veteran Vixens performer Lee Ann Cooper (stage name Dita DeVille) usually does an amazing job hosting the shows, but she says she is looking forward to sharing the duties with co-host Deanna Calvert (stage nameFi Fi LaFemme.) Cooper will take the stage as Mother Goose, while Fi Fi LaFemme is the Faerie Godmother.
Cooper also said you won't want to miss the surprises they've been hinting at on their Facebook page. She mentioned that you should buy your tickets soon, because all of the VIP (front table) tickets are already sold out for all shows. (Their shows tend to sell out in general.) Shows run February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21. Doors open at 7 p.m. each night, and the show starts at 8 p.m. Their shows will keep you busy for the rest of the night for just $20 general admission cost online in advance or at the door.
