Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is a power trio that started grinding and barreling their way through blues based garage rock a decade before The White Stripes were even a blip on the mainstream radar.  Indie-rock purveyors that cut their teeth on the same fanzine scene as bands like Slint, Pavement, and Dinosaur Jr.  Jon Spencer Blues Explosion never quite blew up in the post-Nirvana alt-rock smash and grab of the early 90’s.  They stuck with their indie-roots and have continued to release albums and tour consistently (with the exception of a 4 year hiatus from 2007 through 2011).

Currently touring behind their newest album, Freedom Tower – No Wave Dance Party, which was released earlier this year with positive reviews.  Jon Spencer Blues Explosion will be performing at Zanzabar this Sunday, April 19th.  The doors open at 8 PM, show starts at 9 PM – and tickets are still available $15 - $18.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
