    Bit to Do

Interested in meditation? Wanting to try a new way of mindfulness? The Passionist Earth and Spirit Center offers two courses beginning in February.

The beginning meditation course, “Encountering the Inner Christ,” includes basic instructions in Christian “insight meditation,” a Buddhism-inspired method that offers

“insight” into the nature of things, leading to liberation of the mind and access of the Kingdom of Heaven within. Additionally, students will learn about the psychological and scriptural underpinnings of the practice and guidance for applying it in their everyday lives.

    The advanced course, “

Meditation for Experienced Students,” takes insight meditation a step further for those who already practice meditation regularly

    .

This course will help participants learn to empty themselves of identification with the ego and allow themselves to become available to the Inner Spirit.

“Encountering the Inner Christ” starts Saturday, February 6 with an orientation that is a prerequisite for the rest of the classes, which begin the following Wednesday, February 10 and run for ten weeks. The Saturday class runs from 9:00 A.M.–3:30 P.M., and the Wednesday classes will be offered mornings and evenings. (Participants may attend either session.)

“Meditation for Experienced Students” begins Saturday, February 13, with ten weekly classes following on Tuesdays. As with the introductory course, morning and evening slots are available; a textbook is required for both courses.

    The instructor,

    Fr. Joe Mitchell, CP, holds

a graduate degree in Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. He is the director of the Passionist Earth and Spirit Center and a Roman Catholic priest.

Classes will take place at the BARN behind the Passionist Monastery,

1924 Newburg Road. There is a suggested donation of $140; however, no one will be refused for lack of funds.
