    Bit to Do

After more than a year and a half, the struggle over the 2100 block of Bardstown Road—bounded by the Twig and Leaf diner at Douglass Boulevard and a vacant building at Princeton Drive—is over.

Jenifer Frommeyer, director of Dreams With Wings, a social services organization that provides housing and support opportunities to developmentally disabled children and adults, has confirmed that the organization has signed an option to purchase the building at the corner of Bardstown and Princeton, across the street from the Fifth Third Bank.

“We’re purchasing it,” Frommeyer says. While Dreams With Wings still is raising additional funds to complete the purchase from local owner Tom Payette and undertake renovations, the organization’s goal is to move from its current location at 1579 Bardstown Road by the spring. “We’re very excited.”

The purchase means that CVS—or any other large entity—is physically blocked from taking over the block.

Twig and Leaf received landmark status six months ago, and North End Café is moving into the old Club Grotto location by year’s end.

Terra Long, legislative assistant to Councilman Tom Owen (8th District), is positive about the agency’s move. “CVS has moved on,” she says. “I think Dreams With Wings will be perfect.”
