You’ve no doubt heard about the big change that many people think will happen in 2012. Although there’s no definitive evidence that cataclysm will occur, people of all faiths believe that the world is changing at an accelerated speed as of late.

Regardless of your creed, there’s a lot to explore in “The New Cosmology and the Universe Story,” a new class offered by the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center, July 12–16, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This course explores the shift that is taking place in our understanding of the world and the opportunities the shift offer to humanity. Investigating how we as stewards of the Earth can renew our intimacy with our home and rediscover the wonder of our existence—and the divine origins of it all—attendees will also discuss global challenges facing the human community while considering ways to create a better tomorrow for future generations. Says instructor Fr. Joe Mitchell, “Our hope is to make sense of a world in transition. Our responsibility is to make something beautiful of it. Our dream is to find a meaningful home and a sense of belonging.”

The Passionists seek to celebrate the connection between faith and care for the Earth, offering programs on topics from meditation to environmental justice throughout the year to people of all faiths. “The New Cosmology and the Universe Story” will take place at the BARN behind the Passionist Monastery at 1924 Newburg Road. The suggested donation is $75. To register, e-mail
