In the past 8 months, there have been few female artists that have spoken to me like Louisville’s own, Cheyenne Marie Mize. Ms. Mize takes to the Port Stage at 8:00 and if you have any doubt of the level of brilliance she possesses, look down the lineup as she’s got a primetime slot opposite the likes of Gramatik, Beats Antique, and Neko Case. If it were my ends I was dropping on the 3 day pass wager, the sure thing for me would be Ms. Mize without a doubt.
On her latest EP, ‘We Don’t Need’, Mize crafts a hypnotic gem with ‘Wishing Well’. One of the best things this song inspired was a video filmed in a local Mall of an unnamed star in a sweatshirt with ‘bear ears’. Since I first marveled this masterpiece it has disappeared but I know it’s out there and would be worth beating up Al Gore’s internet, like a fixed Mayweather fight, to find again. My point here is the way the Mize’s music inspires some is truly a work of art.
Do yourself a favor and witness Ms. Mize in her glory. Let’s also pray to the Fathers of Forecastle that our bear makes an appearance. You thought the bee in Blind Melon’s ‘No Rain’ was a hit? Please. Neither even compare.
