Free styling at its best. That’s what Zion I (pronounced Zion Eye) was all about at the Forecastle Festival this past Friday.  All the way from Oakland, California, Zion I was representing the Bay area with its sick beats, intense free styling, amazing robot moves, and a crazy guitar.

Starting off with “Juicy Juice,” Zion I pumped the crowd up with their energy. Zumbi was all over the stage, jumping, dancing and spitting out raps like no other. In all honestly, I was afraid one of them would trip over the microphone cords on the stage, but they proved to be better than that! Not to forget, Zumbi’s crazy robot moves. He was popping it like a pro! It was hard to decide who was having more fun, the crowd or the performers, but all together the Red Bull Stage and surrounding area was live.

If that wasn’t enough for a spectacular performance, DJ Amp Live came out with a solo on a guitar like one I have never seen before. It had a sound board that he was controlling with buttons. If you know what these are called, please enlighten me. However, regardless, it was the perfect cherry on top to the Zion I performance.

Lastly, they ended with “Coastin’” from their 2009 album The Take Over, and the crowd was content.  I’d never heard Zion I before, but I enjoyed their performance at Forecastle just as much as any other of their fans!
