It will be impossible to escape the thump of bass at Forecastle Festival 2010, but then again, why would you want to?  And what fantastic thumping it will be - Forecastle has placed Bassnectar on this year’s expanded electronic music roster.  Bassnectar, which is Lorin Ashton and occasion collaborators, has a heavy bass that can be both heard and seen via a visual art performance on LCD screens that accompanies his concerts.

The music is a fusion of dubstep and gangster rap, punk, reggae, and even ragtime, among many, many others.  Bassnectar’s arsenal includes bootlegs, mixes, and original tracks, which are all worth a listen because, as Chicago-based DJ Lemi Vice explains, “Bassnectar is arguably the most well-known, active American dubstep producer and DJ.”

With so many different genres mixed in, it may be hard to guess what you’re in for in a particular show, but if his latest EP is any indication, then one should expect hard beats that get the body moving.  The EP released in March, called Timestretch, was “created to meltdown dance floors,” according to Bassnectar’s website.

Like many musicians in the summer, Bassnectar is on the tour path, and will be stopping (to start the party) at Forecastle Festival on Saturday, July 10, at 9pm on the West Stage.  Click here for a map, parking info, and more.
