Since last year’s event, Forecastle Festival 2010 has expanded its electronic music acts, and is doing so wisely by inviting Ana Sia to perform at the festival’s after party aboard the Belle of Louisville, but she has not been slated to play the festival itself.

Ana Sia’s sound is very electronic and mechanical with very few organic sounds – it’s “hard” music, but still aptly lends itself to get down.  She has been touring a lot lately, playing many festivals, but has found the time to change her style before her upcoming EP release in August called International Profile (this will be her first EP).  Ana Sia says “I’m getting away from dark and evil, and toward pretty and uplifting – just trying to make an explanation of my brain in sound.”

Her Forecastle set should incorporate her trademark use of heavy bass beats because she has been listening to what she calls “pretty beasty stuff” and is a self-proclaimed “low-end lover.”  However, there’s isn’t a determined set list.  Ana Sia explains “It’s always a grand experiment through different genres.  I just want to keep bodies and ears interested.”

In the end, getting you to dance is Ana Sia’s goal… and job.  Her focus is set on the crowd, and that is her favorite part of being a DJ.  She says that she loves “being able to provide an experience that I would want to have on the dance floor myself, to journey through with people.”

Catch Ana Sia on Friday, July 9, on the Belle of Louisville at the Forecastle After Party, which runs 12:30am (technically Saturday) to 3:30am, because that’s the only place you’ll be able to see her during her very brief stay in the Derby City.  Ana Sia won’t even have time to site-see in our fair city, saying “I wish I had time, but I’ll only be there for the one evening.”
