What to say about Brett Eugene Ralph's Kentucky Chrome Revue? Scheduled to play this Saturday on the north stage of the festival at 7:40 PM, this is a local group based around writer, teacher and poet Brett Eugene Ralph. He released a book of poetry last year titled "Black Sabbatical" and Publishers Weekly review sums up Mr. Ralph (as well as his band, though I don't believe that was not the intent of the review) quite nicely. They wrote "Southern gothic meets alt-country twang, and rural hardship meets terse postpunk sophistication [as] Ralph’s troubled characters and dissonant outbursts evoke a self-destructive youth: “It’s like somebody choking on a car horn,” one poem ends, “or something metal being born.” Ralph’s rough free verse recalls the deep Ozark surrealism of Frank Stanford and the early poems of Denis Johnson, though neither precursor takes on quite the same blend of upper South present and past.
In additon to Brett Eugene Ralph, the other regular band mates are Chris Reinstatler, Mark "Lupe" Hamilton, Justin Davis, and Jamie Daniel.
