The Avett Brothers will be one of the closing performances for Forecastle 2013. They have charmed audiences with their unique mixture of rock, folk, indie, and bluegrass since 2000.  According to the San Francisco Chronicle The Avett Brothers have, “found the sound - the heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt,  the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones - that allows them to express a full range of emotions and opt for honesty and optimism over irony and cynicism.” The band’s lineup is: Scott Avett (vocals, banjo, kick drum), Seth Avett (vocals, guitar, high-hat), Bob Crawford (vocals, bass) and Joe Kwon (cello). They have appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Craig Ferguson and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. The Avett Brothers appeared on the 53rd Grammy Awards where they performed with Mumford and Sons and Bob Dylan. At the 55th Grammy Awards, the Avett Brothers were Nominated for Best Americana Album, "Carpenter". In 2009, the Rolling Stone Magazine named the Avett Brothers “The Artist to Watch.” The band has many hit songs like, “I And Love And You,” “Live And Die,” “January Wedding,” and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promises.” Check out their show Sunday, July 14 at 9:15pm on the Mast Stage.
