If you haven’t yet had a chance to check out a Filson Bourbon Academy event, you will have two opportunities over the next two weeks. The first will be The Filson Bourbon Salon at Oxmoor on November 13 from 5:30 to 7:30. The second will be The 2014 FIlson Bourbon Challenge on November 18 from 6-8 p.m.
The concept of a salon comes from philosophical and literary history. People would gather to discuss ideas or events in an informal or even entertaining way. The Filson Bourbon Salon at Oxmoor definitely keeps with this tradition. First, it is set in a beautiful private library in an historic farm mansion tucked away behind the bustle of St. Matthews. Second, each session of the Filson Bourbon Salon series takes aim at a different aspect of bourbon. The first was all about bourbon history and travel, the second about experimental products, and the third about bourbon families. Next week’s Filson Bourbon Salon will be about the top bourbon bars contributing to bourbon’s gilded age. Click here for tickets.
The following week, The Filson Historical Society will play host to the 2014 Filson Bourbon Challenge. Participants will sample five bourbons in no particular order and will have to try to name each one. A list will be provided of possible contenders, and the winner will walk away with two bottles of Orphan Barrel bourbon. This will be a fun and friendly way to test your bourbon knowledge and possibly win a couple of Christmas presents. Click here for tickets.
The Filson Bourbon Salon and the Bourbon Challenge are a great way to unwind with other bourbon lovers after a weekday at work. They are also an excellent learning opportunity. I hope to see you there!
