Bourbon is as much a part of Kentucky life as bluegrass. It’s on our blood. Even those of us who weren’t born into the old established bourbon families feel a profound sense of pride about our native spirit. We love to learn everything we can about it. That’s why I created my Citizen Bourbon Ambassador series- there’s so much going on in the Bourbon Industry right now and there have never been more opportunities to learn about and connect with the bourbon world.
One of the more unique opportunities I’ve heard about recently is Moonshine University’s all day Bourbon Making workshop. Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., you have the opportunity to learn everything that goes into the making of your favorite bottle of bourbon. Think of it as the coolest adult education course ever.
The seminar will start with breakfast followed by a little bit of bourbon history. Then attendees will get to roll up their sleeves and learn the entire process of making bourbon, from milling the grains to making the mash, from fermenting and aging to distilling and bottling. I can’t think of a better excuse to take a Friday off from work and play hookie.
Learning about bourbon is the most important job of a Citizen Bourbon Ambassador. This class kicks off a summer of interesting classes and seminars by the folks at Moonshine University (more about those as they draw closer). But the first step is to learn where bourbon comes from. And you’re a lot more likely to remember if you have a hand in making it. So it’s time to get out there and make some bourbon. Click here for tickets.
