The Fervor is without a doubt one of Louisville’s finest bands.  As a collective they have released some of the most thoughtful, creative music of anyone in the Louisville music scene.  The group led by Natalie and Ben Felker as the primary songwriting team that has anchored the group and their thoughtful, soulful tapestries of musical nuance for a decade now.

While The Fervor has been a key group in the flourishing Louisville music scene – the group have been notorious perfectionists with tendency towards long bouts of down time between projects.  This Saturday, at Haymarket Whiskey Bar, The Fervor will be playing the third of four shows scheduled between September and October.  This comes as a surprise, considering they may have played four shows in Louisville total over the last three years. In the past, this much activity from this group has been the precursor to an announcement for the release of a new album or project, so we may have that to look forward to.

When I imply the band works slowly – it’s not a criticism, but more a note toward their dedication to making consistently thought provoking music.  In a decade together they have released two albums, a split EP with Wussy, and a few sporadic singles – not the least of which is the single “Same State,” originally recorded for the “Louisville is for Lovers” compilation and one of the most achingly beautiful songs you might ever hear.

The band’s debut, “Bleeder,” released in 2007 (and re-released in 2013), becoming an almost instant indie-rock classic.  And the critically acclaimed follow-up “Arise, Great Warrior,” was released in 2011.  The band has been pretty dormant for the last few years, so it’s great to see things heating up again.

The Fervor will be performing Saturday, September 19th at Haymarket Whiskey Bar.  The show starts at 9 PM and tickets are available for $8.  Town Cars and Killii Killii will also be on the bill.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
