Tech N9ne is one of the craziest emcees in the game right now and has been one of the most well-respected names in the business for over a decade and a half.

Bursting out of the hip-hop underground in the late '90s, his debut “The Calm Before the Storm” felt like a call to arms for all real emcees to wage lyrical war against all the poseurs that were crowding the industry at the time.

Tech N9ne has continued to consistently put out an album (sometimes multiple albums) every year since his debut made such a splash in the industry. Albums like “Anghellic,” “Absolute Power,” “Everready (The Religion)” and “Welcome to Strangeland” have mixed his intricate production style and his often thought-provoking lyrics with some of hip-hop’s biggest artists, including E-40, Ice Cube, Scarface, Three 6 Mafia, B.O.B., Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Kalifa, Cee-Lo Green, T.I. and Eminem. He has also been featured on albums by artists such as Lil Wayne, Insane Clown Posse and The Game.

But don’t be quick to pigeonhole Tech N9ne as one of those artists that has head buried in the hip-hop sand. His interests and influences are varied, spanning the entire musical spectrum. He has collaborated with several rock artists such as Serj Tankian (from System of a Down), Deftones, The Doors, Hed PE, Travis Barker (from Blink 182) and Five Finger Death Punch.  Nothing is off limits for what he’s willing to do as an artist, a quality that emerges as visceral urgency in his live show and has made him one of the most enigmatic live performers in hip-hop today.

Tech N9ne’s Special Effects Tour will be stopping at Diamond Pub Concert Hall in Louisville Tuesday June 9. The show is at 7 p.m. and, tickets are $30. Murs and Kriss Kaliko will also be performing.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
