Looking for something different to do tonight? Well, New Albany is hosting two exciting events this evening.

    1. Exclusively New Albany -  From 6-9pm at the home of Mayor Doug and Shelle England. This is the third annual event celebrating New Albany's local businesses, artists, music, and restaurants. Come enjoy tastings of wine, beer, and food from local restaurants and farmer's market vendors. The committee at Develop New Albany have promised an evening of food, drink, and entertainment. Tickets are $35 at the door, but if you're quick you can pick some up for $30 at various local businesses. Proceeds benefit Develop New Albany, the Padgett Museum, and DAR/Scribner House.

    2. Steinert's Grill and Pub is the newest host to the wildest variety show in town featuring comedy, music, carnival performers, artists, local media and more! That's right,

Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard is invading New Albany. This traveling variety show is hosted by Louisville wild child/ renaissance woman Divinity Rose.

Sub Rosa also wants to showcase YOU. A sign up list is put out at 8:30 before the show begins where anyone can sign up to perform throughout the night. The show starts at 9 pm.

And if that's not enough, it's $1 beer night at Steinert's - $1 domestic longnecks all night. I have not been to a Sub Rosa event before, so I'll just quote from the press release here:

A typical night at Sub Rosa exposes viewers to the amazing talent right in our own backyards, and there is no cover charge. Attendees get a free smorgasboard of comedy, music, poetry and more as they get to peruse paintings, jewelry, sculptures or local films. Sometimes there are even more extreme performances including fire spinning or glass walking. Friendships, relationships, employment and more have been found and forged at the courtyard.  You never know what you will see when you walk through the doors, but it will change your life.

Divinity Rose hosts the event with an unmatched energy level that electrifies everyone around her. In addition to producing Sub Rosa, Rose is an alternative pop and performance artist (currently #2 on the Reverb Nation pop charts for Louisville), and a graphic novel author/artist who began her entertainment career with community theater, indie film and stand up comedy. She released her graphic novel in March and sold out of the first run within a month.  The storyline crosses her live performance and videos, which she releases at Sub Rosa.

Serendipitously, these two events are scheduled back to back. One could attend Exclusively New Albany at the mayor's house, get a taste of local businesses and establishments, then follow it up with Sub Rosa, thus rounding out the evening with a variety show featuring local talent.
