Dave Landau hit the road on his 21st birthday and never looked back. He's been crisscrossing the country slinging jokes in bars, comedy clubs and theaters, dealing with hecklers, half-full houses and cold rooms every night since.

Landau has a very defiant style to his delivery, honed from his background working with the local branch of the Second City Conservatory in his hometown of Detroit. His improvisational training helps retain a certain amount of charm in his dark, deadpan material. And though he has mastered the deadpan delivery, he still manages to spew jokes at a breakneck pace.

His brand of stand-up is familiar even if you have never heard it before. Landau looks at the world with a fresh, modern perspective that still manages call back to a bygone era of comedy.  He connects with the audience on a very basic level – meeting them with jokes on the mundane house, mortgage and children – he just has a slightly darker perspective on the whole thing than most. But it’s just clever enough to make you smile. Landau is an everyman who is simply trying to keep his sanity in a world gone insane.

Landau’s work has paid off. Hitting the road, honing his craft and perfecting his material, he's managed to crack the nut of television. He's appeared on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and on two consecutive seasons of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” He makes regular appearances on “Bob & Tom,” and was voted one of the “21 Great Club Comics of Today” at HBO’s Las Vegas Comedy Festival.

Dave Landau will be performing at The Laughing Derby all weekend, June 4-6. There will be early and late shows Friday and Saturday night. Tickets are still available ranging from $12-$15.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
