Comedy Caravan is on the search for Louisville's funniest person with a tournament spanning many months in 2013.
They've already held qualifying rounds for the funniest legal professional, funniest medical professional, and funniest mom. The next qualifying round is for Louisville's funniest dad and it's June 12. The contest is for non-professional comedians or amateurs to perform 3-5 mintutes of comedic material on the big stage. Most of the performers have never been on stage before. The top two in each round (voted by audience members) will go on to the finals to compete for the title of Louisville's Funniest Person. The winner of each qualifying round will get a trophy and additional prize (varies depending on round).
I was recently part of the Funniest Moms round and came in second. It was a lot of fun to see some of the contestants react to their first time on stage. They threw their hands up to block the bright lights or had troubles with the mic stand. Mostly I enjoyed their really hilarious stories and was enamored that most of the women on stage had four or more children. I empathized with each of them. I look forward to seeing more of what Louisville has to offer.
Tickets for each show are $10 (not for performers) and can be purchased on the Comedy Caravan web site. Audience members are given a voting ballot and asked to circle two names for the two performers they think are the funniest. The ballots are collected and votes totaled while a headlining comedian entertains the audience.
