Jazz regains a permanent home in Louisville when Jazzyblu, a jazz cafe and lounge, opens tonight at 8 p.m.
Located in the lower level of Glassworks (815 W. Market St.), space previously occupied by the now-defunct Jazz Factory, Jazzyblu will focus on smooth jazz from local performers with occasional concerts from regional and national acts. The club will feature live music Thursday through Sunday nights.
James "Maestro J" Racine is the club's director of programming. His group, The Jazzyblu Triad" also will serve as the house band.
Many of the projected acts for Jazzyblu played in the Jazz Factory Orphan Series, which started after that club closed but demonstrated the demand for jazz in Louisville.
Possible recurring special events include Sunday jazz brunches, rooftop concerts and live jazz during glassblowing events, all in collaboration with Glassworks.
In addition to great live jazz, Jazzyblu will offer a full bar and restaurant. And on Tuesday through Fridays, it will feature
- a $5.99 lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring fried catfish, penne pasta, fried shrimp and pepper steak
- happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. with a free buffet, $1 drafts and videos of famous jazz musicians
While most of the ambiance from the Jazz Factory was retained, work was done to perfect the acoustics.
