A modern retelling of a classic Greek tragedy, The Trojan Women, will open YPAS's theatre season on Friday.
All performances of The Trojan Women will take place in the Robert W. West Experimental Theatre at the Youth Performing Arts School, located at 1517 2nd Street in the Old Louisville area. Performances will take place on September 24, 25, October 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. each night.
Tickets for each are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, and $9 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the YPAS website or the school box office. More information on tickets or the show can be found at the YPAS website or by calling 502-485-8355.
The classic Euripides-created story of The Trojan Women occurs just after a war in which Troy was taken over and the male residents were killed. For the war victor's, however, it may be a long trip home as god and goddess Poseidon and Pallas Athena, respectively, begin plotting obsticles against them.
The modern retelling of Trojan Women, meanwhile, will bring forth modern language as well as modern dance and poetry. A quartet will also perform original music for the production.
Following The Trojan Women, YPAS will present Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a new works festival, dance and music concerts, and other shows during the 2010-2011 school year.
