No ROUSs will stop anyone from attending Alley Theater's The Princess Bride Experience, which takes place all day Saturday.
For those that don't know, The Princess Bride is one of those rare movies that has something for guys, something for girls, and includes many words and phrases that are inconceivably remembered to this day. (My name is Inigo Montoya, anyone?)
The plot centers on Buttercup, who falls in love with a farmboy. That farmboy goes off to make money so they can get married. However, after a pirate attack, he is believed dead. As a result, Buttercup agrees to marry Prince Humperdinck.
However, the farmboy inconceivably is alive and well as a pirate. He reunites with Buttercup, and the two go on an adventure filled with battles, sword fights, ROUSs, and the continuation of a love story.
The Princess Bride Experience is a celebration of that movie (and the book from which it was based). During the festival, which runs Saturday noon to 9:30 p.m., there were be trivia contests, a Louisville Fencing Company fencing demo, a costume contest, and quote-along and rapid-fire performance versions of the movie.
The experience is also a fund raiser for the Alley Theater, which is hoping to finance the soundproofing and other renovations for the group's theatre space.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door for adults. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by adults. Tickets can be purchased, and more information on the festival, can be found at The Alley Theater website.
