Yellow Submarine to premiere at Abbey Road on the River
    Print this page

Yellow Submarine hit select theaters May 10, 2012 in the US, and now Beatles' fans in Louisville are invited to a special premier of Yellow Submarine, in the midst of the largest Beatles’ festivals in the country.  The Beatles set off on a high adventure to save the world from bluedom, in the realm of Pepperland.  Based upon the hit song, “Yellow Submarine”, written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, the movie takes viewers on a journey to fight evil with humor, song, and the Beatles’ vessel of choice, their Yellow Submarine.

Pepperland, a place engulfed with music and happiness for all is under siege from the Blue Meanies, a force eager to silence the music and bring sadness to the realm, led by the menacing Flying Grove. Written by  Lee Minoff, Al Brodax, Jack Mendelsohn, and Erich Segal, the full length animated film features music from The Beatles, as if that were actually a question.  George Dunning directs the “G” rated, digitally restored film.  The restoration was done frame by frame, by hand for 4K digital cameras.  Abbey Road on the River was selected to screen this film in the Louisville area by the producer, Al Brodax.

The film is scheduled to screen at 8:30 pm at the Lawn Stage, adjacent to the Belvedere in downtown Louisville.  Yellow Submarine runs for 89 minutes and is an all ages event.  The screening is free and open to the public.  For additional information about this and other Abbey Road on the River events, stay tuned to Louisville.com for festival updates and pictures.
