Whisky Chicks: One Year Down, Many More To Go
    Print this page

The Whisky Chicks celebrated their first anniversary last night.  I heard the same comment over and over: “Has it only been a year?  It seems like longer.”  The Whisky Chicks have covered a lot of ground in their first year.  They started off with a mixer where 30 complete strangers got together to commune over their love of bourbon.  They hosted a “how to throw a Derby Party” party the week before Derby.  They had a smashingly successful fundraiser for the Coalition for the Homeless at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.  And they hosted a three part tasting series at Westport Whiskey and Wine.  All of the events were packed to the rafters.

I have been fortunate enough to be invited to many of the events.  I always see familiar faces and have had the opportunity to make some great friends along the way.  But what always strikes me is the new people who show up.  These are women from all over town who just want to meet other women who like bourbon.  As it turns out, there are a lot of us.

Last night we celebrated the Whisky Chicks’ first anniversary at Down One.  Woodford Reserve generously donated bourbon, cocktails, and swag to the first fifty women who registered for the event.  There were representatives from at least four distilleries whom I’ve met before, all there to share their love of bourbon with other women.  Many of the folks in the industry come to these events just for fun.

The Whisky Chicks organization was founded on the principles of fun and friendship.  Men are allowed to attend even though the organization is geared toward women, but for the most part it’s all about building friendships with women who love bourbon without having to worry about work and kids.

They Whisky Chicks have great plans for the next year.  Stay tuned to hear more about tasting experiences and other fun events.
