If you’re a woman who loves whiskey, you need to get acquainted with The Kentucky Whisky Chicks. Last year they had a three part bourbon education and tasting series called The Kentucky Sampler. It was held at Westport Whiskey and Wine and it broke up the bourbon regions of the state by their main river basin. It was a new and interesting way to learn about bourbon, and it really drove home the idea that bourbon made at one distillery would taste completely different if it were made at another. In addition to the tasting and educational aspects, it was also a great opportunity to meet bourbon-loving women from all over Louisville.
The Kentucky Whisky Chicks’ next education and tasting series schedule has just been announced. Whisky of the World will cover bourbon, rye, Scotch, and Irish Whiskies. The first session will be all about Scotch whisky and Irish whiskey. As usual, the sessions will be held at the tasting room at Westport Whiskey and Wine and the discussion will be led by owner Chris Zaborowski.
It’s way too easy in Louisville to dismiss other kinds of whisky altogether since we live in the bourbon capital of the world. However, part of being a good ambassador of our own native spirit is trying others, which can open a dialogue. Don’t dismiss Scotch and Irish Whiskey just because you love bourbon. Give them a try so that you can compare and contrast them. This series of events is the perfect introduction.
Tickets are $25 per session, and if you buy tickets to all three up front you’ll receive a free hat or Glencarin glass. Click here for more information.
