I’ve heard a lot of people say Scotch is their favorite whisky to drink in the fall. There’s something about the earthiness of a peated Scotch that reminds me of cool weather and a bonfire, and while I still prefer bourbon year-round, I can see their point.
The Whisky Chicks have put together another learning opportunity at Westport Whiskey and Wine, this time to learn all about Scotch. Leading the class will be a Scotch expert from Diageo as well as store owner Chris Zaborowski. There are lots of different regions and types of Scotch, and not all of them are peated. This will be an opportunity to learn which Scotches come from which regions and how their flavor profiles differ. According to the event page:
“Just like the varying regions of California produce different profiles for wine, Scotland’s whisky regions produce distinct qualities and flavors. Each whisky has its own personality and characteristics that come from their location, climate and hundreds of years of history and tradition. Diageo’s Scotch collection ranges from the precious legacy of distilleries and operating sites all over Scotland, to the global icon of Johnnie Walker – the world's number one selling Blended Scotch Whisky.”
It’s important to understand world whiskeys as a part of your bourbon education, as they all share a common heritage. Tickets are $35 and are extremely limited for this fun and informative event, and they include appetizers, Scotch, and education. The event takes place Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 1115 Herr Lane Louisville. Click here for tickets.
