    Yeah, yeah, candy and costumes and everything spooky is coming together this weekend—but there’s more to this town than trick-or-treating. Here’s where to go and what to do in Louisville this weekend.

    Axton Reading Series: Dan Rosenberg
    A Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and a recent Kentucky poet laureate join other writers sharing their work publicly and teaching master classes at the University of Louisville this fall through the Axton Reading Series. The readings and master classes are open to the public. On Oct. 29-30, Dan Rosenberg, author of poetry collections “cadabra” and “The Crushing Organ,” will read at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in Bingham Poetry Room, Ekstrom Library, and lead a two-hour master class at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 in Room 300, Bingham Humanities Building.

    Pop Up Chef Event
    Come by Barry Wooley Design's NuLu showroom for a pop-up chef event featuring cuisine from local culinary artists. There will also be a special book signing for the new volume of "Secrets of Louisville Chefs Cookbook" with author Nancy Miller. Thirty percent of all cookbook sales and a portion of all retail sales will benefit Dare to Care.

    El Dia de Los Muertos
    Come celebrate the Day of the Dead with SAB and Latin American and Hispanic Student Organization! There will be free food, a live band and many activities. This event is free and open to the public!

    Day of the Dead Art Opening Party
    Join Block Party for an art exhibition opening party for new Day of the Dead -themed art by local artist Karen Abney. Meet the artist and enjoy festivities celebrating Day of the Dead. We will have a public altar you can add to, so feel free to bring a photo of a loved one (can be a family member, pet, celebrity you admire) who you want to honor for the Day of the Dead. We will have a DIY craft station so that you can decorate your photo for the altar! The exhibition will feature artist Karen Abney, as well as artists April Boyd and Kayla Allinger. The exhibition will run through the mid November.

    Fork + Bottle
    Proof on Main's Fork + Bottle dinner series features unique menus crafted by executive chef Mike Wajda, plus pairings from local distillers and winemakers. In October, they'll be pairing each dish in our three course dinner with bourbons from Willett distillery. Guest speakers Hunter Chavanne and Drew Kulsveen of Willet distillery will also be in attendance.

    Lock, Stock & Smoking Barrels Brandy Barrel Beer Fest
    The Copper & Kings American Brandy Co. will host the second annual Lock, Stock & Smoking Barrels festival on behalf of the Beargrass Creek Alliance this Friday. The festival of barrel-aged beer, cider, brandy, coffee, smoking-hot food and music will take place at the American brandy company’s Butchertown distillery,

    "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"
    Sacred Heart School for the Arts presents "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." This production recreates C.S. Lewis's classic story of four children who stumble into the magical world of Narnia.

    Sundy Best is an American country duo formed by Nick Jamerson and Kris Bentley currently living in Lexington, Kentucky and originating from Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Their music is a blend of country, Appalachian folk, bluegrass, rock, soul and R&B.

    Labyrinth Bus Tour
    Board the St. Paul bus for a relaxing tour of Louisville's labyrinths. Sara Ferebee will provide historical background and suggestions for this practice.     Moustache Ride Red Beer Release and No Shave Movember Beard & Mustache Competition
    Flat 12 Bierwerks and The Derby City Whisker Club are partnering for a killer facial hair party to celebrate the start of No Shave November and the release of Flat12's Moustache Ride Red Beer: a rich, bourbon barrel-aged American amber with hints of roasted malt and real vanilla beans. Everyone is invited to come out and test their facial hair prowess, as Flat12 and DCWC host a friendly facial hair competition.     Bridal Show at the Olmsted

    The Islamic Center has invited Louisville-area residents to participate in an early Thanksgiving luncheon on Sunday at the center on River Rd. It's a totally free event, open to all. The center is providing food catered by Chef Jarfi Guests are welcome to bring desserts or fruit platters if they would like to contribute to the meal. Parking is limited.
