The recent break from winter, although rainy, was a welcome change, but with the approaching snow storm it’s safe to say that winter hasn’t totally left us, yet. While I’m prone to hole up inside and complain about the cold stuff, there is a great opportunity to enjoy the weather while it lasts, and it’s less than a tank of gas away.
Perfect North Slopes in Lawrence, Ind., just north of Indianapolis, is the perfect way to enjoy the season and get out of town on a budget because it’s so close. Sitting only 74 miles away from Louisville makes this a great resort to visit for a day, or stay through the weekend if you need the escape. Perfect North Slopes offers the usual skiing and snowboarding routes, but they also have snow tubing for kids and the rest of us who don’t feel comfortable shooting down an icy hill with a couple of flimsy planks strapped to our feet (you can guess which category I fall into). If you’re like me, but don’t want to be, Perfect North offers ski and snowboard lessons.
The resort offers lodging and dining, but there are also other options close by. However, Perfect North’s lodging offers a heated indoor pool and some rooms have fireplaces so a weekend there can be about a lot more than just playing on the slopes.
Lawrence is a small town and it doesn’t seem like there is too much to do there, especially in inclement weather, but Indianapolis is only a few miles away if you want to introduce some nightlife into the weekend (and if you’re not to exhausted from the day’s exercises).
