    Bit to Do

Fall is a time of great bounty.  The cornucopia of harvest overflowth with the fruits (and gourds) of rich food, thick mugs and great heaps of leaves.  Pumpkins dot the landscape with their warm, fleshy smiles, and our children gleefully solicit a healthy crop of sugary delights from indulgent neighbors. Yes, plenty abounds in the Autumn-time.  And did we mention books?  Let us not forget, in this season of plenteous treats, to spoil our minds.  Join The Friends of the Library for a Fall spread of literary fare at delectable prices.

Hosted annually by The Friends of the Library, the Fall Book Sale provides revenue that the Friends organization uses to enhance the programs, materials and services the Louisville Free Public Library affords our good city.  Aside from its altruistic heart, the Fall Book Sale is also an excellent opportunity to fatten your personal shelves and thus benefit your intellect.  This year’s annual sale will be hosted at the South Louisville Community Center (near Churchill Downs) and will feature hundreds – nay thousands – of volumes for your browsing pleasure.  Adult hardcovers are $3, paperbacks and children’s books are priced to move at 2 for $1, and audio, videos and books-on-tape sell for $2 each.

The weekend sale kicks off tomorrow evening, Friday October 28th, with a members-only preview beginning at 6pm.  Memberships will be available at the door for the procrastinators.  The bounty of books opens to the public on Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday, 1pm to 5pm.  Bring your little monsters in costume on Saturday for a free book and candy, compliments of the season.  Sunday – my personal favorite day of the shindig – heralds the $10 box/bag sale: all you can read (that will fit within the confines of a cardboard box) for just 10 smackers.  Quite a steal for a shallow wallet and a hungry bookworm.

Bring your cash, your kids and a hearty literary appetite.  Fall’s plenty is waiting in paperback.

The South Louisville Community Center is located at 2911 Taylor Boulevard

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
