Summer time is approaching, and while we all love to get outside and enjoy the summer weather at the parks, pools, zoo, and splash areas, we also like to cool off, get out of the heat and humidity, and venture back indoors some days. That’s where our trusty local libraries come in handy and win 1st place for summertime fun!
The libraries around Louisville are abundant with programs for toddlers. My toddler and I frequent our favorite stomping ground, the Jeffersontown Public Library (LFPL) every chance we get. Your toddler can experience lots of fun programs, from storytimes to learning some sign language to special music jam sessions. Here’s what’s going on around the libraries in Louisville, Oldham et al counties, as well as the libraries across the Ohio River in Southern Indiana. Always check their local website calendars for more information as the summer (and the heat) wears on.
Louisville Free Public Library
The summer reading program begins on June 1 at all 18 library locations throughout Jefferson County. This is a great opportunity to read to your little one and allow him/her to win some great prizes, including a really cool backpack, a refreshing Frosty from Wendy’s, and more than half a dozen coupons for free entrance to awesome attractions around the city. Along with the summer reading program, toddlers can enjoy weekly storytimes at various neighborhood branches, as well as music, craft, and dance party programs all summer long. The libraries are also in the middle of their effort for parents to help children read 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge. Click here for the library’s calendar.
Toddler Time occurs on Fridays at 10 a.m. at the Main branch. This special time for children and parents is for children 2 and under and includes singing songs and sharing books and finger plays. Oldham County also has a summer reading program for children. Click here for the library’s calendar.
