At six feet and one hundred and eighty pounds Carl Brazley stood as a quick and durable defensive back, early on in his days as a stand out high school athlete at Louisville’s Seneca he proved without question that his career would be legendary, despite not taking a “traditional” path.
Known for a work ethic second to none, Brazley earned the attention of several local universities coming out of high school deciding to lend his talents to Western Kentucky University in the late 1970’s.
As a hilltopper Brazley had a stand-out career, and gained the attention of the Canadian Football League or CFL, and sure enough Brazley soon made his way to the great white north signing on to play with the Montreal Alouettes in 1980.
From there Brazley had an amazing thirteen year career in Canada, winning the CFL’s Superbowl, The Grey Cup, and being named a CFL All-Star, both of these events happening when the back was with the Toronoto Argonauts. In between his stints with Montreal and Toronto, Brazley played the ’81-’82 season with the Ottawa Rough Riders.
His time in Toronto was actually broken up by a move to the NFL, when the player strike forced owners to find “replacement players.” As such Brazley, suited up with the San Diego Chargers in the 1987 season.
Today, Brazley calls the Derby City home once again, and cheers on his son, Nikolas Brazley, a redshirt wide receiever at Kentucky whenever he can.
In addition, Brazley currently works as CEO and President of advertising agency, Mo’ Better Marketing, located on Lexington Road the company has been steadily gaining attention since its inception. Large name clients include Brown Forman, the Ohio River Bridges Project, and the Kentucky History Center to name just a few. All that said, it’s safe to say that Carl Brazley is a sports legend of the Ville.
