Yep...you read that right. A Beatle is coming to town…and no, it isn’t Ringo.
This morning Paul McCartney announced the first four dates on the North American leg of his "Out There" tour - and Louisville is most certainly on the list.
It was confirmed that McCartney will be performing June 26th here in Louisville at KFC Yum! Center, a notably smaller and more intimate venue than usually hosts the rock n’ roll icon. Ticket on-sale dates and prices have yet to be announced, but that information will be coming soon.
He will apparently be playing a three hour show made up of hits from throughout his career, specifically The Beatles (“Let It Be”, “Hey Jude”, and “The Long and Winding Road”), Wings (“Band on the Run”, “Live and Let Die”, and “Jet”), and his solo albums (“Maybe I’m Amazed”) – the set will also touch on songs from his hit 2013 album "New".
Knowing McCartney’s tendency for flare, we can expect the show to be a menagerie of lights, lasers, and pyrotechnics that promises to be not just a concert but a complete audio and visual experience.
His touring band will feature players that have been key fixtures in his live show for more than a decade - Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums).
McCartney kicked off the tour last year playing to audiences in South America, Europe, and Japan. The three other North American cities announced alongside Louisville are New Orleans, Pittsburg, and Albany – with more shows to be announced down the road.
Obviously 2014 is proving to be a busy year on the road for the 71 year old McCartney, because he will be returning to South America for dates in Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile; as well as a show in Costa Rica.
There is no foreseeable scenario where this does not prove to be the biggest show to hit Louisville this year.
