    Bit to Do

    Señor Iguanas

Señor Iguanas local chain is rapidly growing, and has recently expanded into St. Matthews with their Dutchman’s Lane location.  The Louisville and Southern Indiana Mexican grill & bar features an authentic Mexican menu with some bolder flavors and variations from the typical Mexican menus around the city.   I have visited the new location for lunch and dinner, and have been told this location is now serving breakfast from 7-10 AM.  This area is home to many area hospitals and businesses, but a true, sit-down Mexican restaurant in the Dupont area was something that has been missing, so it is a great addition. Drop by the bar for a margarita or dinner before of after catching a movie at Village 8, or stop in at lunch, relax and enjoy a reasonably priced meal on a busy weekday.

My first visit was at dinner time on a busy Friday night during the opening weeks of the restaurant.  The Fish Tacos caught my eye, three double corn tortillas filled with grilled tilapia and pico de gallo, served with a “guacamole salad,” a side of guacamole atop some shredded iceberg.  Our server was very attentive and happy to oblige to my request of extra cilantro on the side.

I stopped in for lunch last week.  A broad lunch menu is offered and includes Burritos, Lunch in a Hurry, Tacos de la Calle, Combos, and Especialidades.  Without much debate, I opted for the 2 Tacos de la Calle and a cup of shredded chicken tortilla soup combo.  I was quickly served a cup of piping hot soup, topped with fresh avocado slices and tortilla strips with a slice of crispy baguette. The tacos were served in mini corn tortillas, or as they call them in Mexico “street” tacos with ground chicken (very spicy, I might add) shredded cilantro, diced onion, and lime wedges on the side for $7.99.  Complimentary chips, fresh salsa and a Mexican style ranch dip are brought to every table.  Señor Iguanas will rapidly become a routine spot for lunch and dinner for this Mexican food lover!  Check out any of the five area locations.
