When translated from Spanish to English, El Taco Luchador becomes "The Taco Fighter." And if this Highlands taqueria is fighting for anything, it’s the right to serve delicious tacos on a college student budget. Whether or not you’ve ever made it out to this one-of-a-kind taco shack, we’ve got all the details you’ll need for the next (or first) time you fight for your right to party – and eat amazing tacos – at El Taco Luchador.

    What to Wear:

This small restaurant offers an indoor dining room along with patio seating, so dress weather-appropriate depending on where you plan to sit. And don’t worry about dressing up, this place is as casual as they come. Stop by on your lunch break while you’re sporting your business casual attire or swing by on your way home from the gym in your sweaty workout gear.

    Where to Park:

Like most businesses on Baxter Avenue, El Taco Luchador offers street parking instead of a parking lot. We recommend looking for spot near the restaurant on Morton Avenue, where parking is free all day.

    What to Order:

For those not in the mood for a taco, but still craving El Taco Luchador’s signature Mexican flavor, try a torta, or a Mexican-style sandwich. These sandwiches, which consist of huge portions of cheese, vegetables and meats baked between two oversized slices of thick bread, give this restaurant’s tacos some close competition. We recommend the Desayuno torta, which combines everything you love about bacon, chorizo, ham and fried eggs. There is also a vegetarian torta available!

Taco lovers are sure to go crazy for the Carnitas taco. Reminiscent of a summertime barbecue, this taco is loaded with plenty of crispy pork, melted cheese, pickled onions, guacamole and cilantro all wrapped in a hot and flavorful corn tortilla. Order two as a meal or one with a side, we recommend an order of chips and guacamole with this one.

Vegetarians will crave the veggie taco. Plantains fill in the place of meat in this savory treat loaded with black beans, corn-roasted poblano peppers, melted cheese and guacamole. This one pairs perfectly with a side of sweet mole fries.

    How Much:

Tacos are sold individually and range in price from $3 - $3.75 each. Tortas are also sold individually and range from $9 - $10 each. Sides and appetizers are served in shareable portions and are all under $5.50.

    Wait Time:

This place is always packed for lunch, especially when the weather is nice. Expect to wait for a table for up to 20 minutes when visiting during the prime lunch rush, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.. But don’t be discouraged by the limited seating space, El Taco Luchador gladly accepts to-go orders.
