If you plan on taking advantage of Halloween falling on a Sunday this year but need a break from a long weekend of scary chancery, you may want to enjoy some live music. Revered local venue The Rudyard Kipling has some big plans.

On Friday 10/29, Jason Wilbur and Joel Timothy will perform beginning at 7:30. Bloomington native Wilbur was just here last Friday at the Palace, playing guitar for John Prine, but he is an accomplished songwriter and standout guitarist in his own right. Timothy is also a well respected singer-songwriter. The show costs $10.

Friday 10/29 is also the date for The Louisville Cartoonist society's Spooktacular, which gets under way with its Comicnomicon Halloween Release Party that features horror comics from over 20 local artists and music from Softcheque, Montag, and The Ballroom Brawlers. There will also be a costume contest with prizes for the winners. The event begins at 9 p.m. If you are wearing a costume, admission is $5, sans costume it is $7.

At 9:30 that same night, local favorite Phantom Family Halo will be performing with openers Young Widows, Rude Weirdos, and Straight A's. This isn't just a concert; it's also April Oster and Chad Castetter's wedding. The public is invited to attend for free, or as The Rud puts it, "to crash one of the most electrifying wedding parties ever."

On Sunday, beginning at 8:00 P.M., The Tunesmiths, The Benjamin Davis Group, and Dave Hobbs headline Halloween night. There will be free pizza and anotehr cosume contst. The cost is $8 a person or $12 for couples.

No word on whether or not The Paul Lynde Halloween Special will also be playing on a big screen TV somewhere in the building.
